Support

You Make Us Great

Sustaining the excellence of the Department of Art History is critical to the University, our local community, and the world. Your tax-deductible contribution provides our students with encouragement and vital financial support. It gives our faculty resources for enlarging knowledge and understanding. It helps to build and sustain a distinguished reputation for the department.

What Your Gift Can Do

Your contribution allows us to ensure:

  • A distinguished faculty: creating endowed chairs and professorships and supporting interdisciplinary research centers and programs will help us recruit and retain outstanding faculty.
  • Excellence and competitiveness of our graduate program: faculty choose institutions that attract the best graduate students. We need to ensure the excellence and competitiveness of our graduate programs so that we may compete for the best faculty and brightest students.
  • A diverse and engaged undergraduate student body: although we are attracting better students than ever before, too many other outstanding students choose other institutions—often for financial reasons. Merit and need-based scholarships are needed to recruit many outstanding students.

Choose a Fund

There are a number of ways your gift can help support graduate and undergraduate students—the next generation of leaders and thinkers—in the Department of Art History:

  • Art History Annual Fund
Support for students continues to be a top priority for contributions to the Art History Fund. Funds are used to support students and events in Art History, including student travel to museums and conferences, internship mixers for undergraduates and local employers, and the annual Art History Undergraduate Symposium, showcasing winners of the biannual Art History Senior Project Prize.
  • Art History PhD Student Support Fund
This fund will help attract and retain the most promising graduate students. It will defray the costs of tuition and other school costs, allowing them to concentrate on their studies and take advantage of the programs that the department offers.
  • Frederick and Catherine Asher Strategic Initiatives Fund for Art History
This fund provides strategic funding for the Department of Art History. The goal is to make this fund a permanent endowment.
  • Gabriel P. Weisberg Curatorial Fellowship
This fund provides financial support to Art History graduate students who demonstrate academic merit and are participating in a curatorial internship at an approved institution.
  • Student Research and Travel Fund
Because graduate and undergraduate students must often travel to see art in context, and study the documentation for it, the department hopes to defray some of these costs to help them complete their degrees.
